École Polytechnique Students Win 24h Running Event

This February 23 and 24, six École Polytechnique students (five Ingénieur Polytechnicien students and one Bachelor student) took part in one of the toughest sports competitions around, the 24h Xtreme. The competitors had to complete a 24-hour relay race over a 5-km course, taking on 20 different obstacles. This challenge brings together team spirit, sport, agility and mental stamina. A total of 118 teams competed on the day, but it was the team from École Polytechnique who brought home the gold medal.

Driven by their taste for competition and keen interest in sport, the six students (Pierre Liorit X16, Geoffroy de Meyer X16, Jean-Baptiste Turmel X16, Matthieu Sattler X16, Emmanuel Pinglier X16 and Guillaume Lainé BX2020) of the l’X team decided to set themselves this ambitious task.

Guillaume Lainé, a student in the Bachelor Program, shared his feelings with us about the adventure. Before taking on this challenge, sport was already a huge part of his life, as a way to escape from his troubles and to maintain an active lifestyle on top of his intense studies at École Polytechnique.

“Aside from the physical obstacles, the most difficult part is the mental aspect: not giving up and finishing the race no matter what happens,” explained Guillaume. Despite the difficulties they encountered during this daunting feat of athleticism, there was a great rapport within the team, even though they didn’t all know each other beforehand.

The winning team are proud of their performance and the spirit of camaraderie they developed during the challenge. École Polytechnique heartily congratulates the six students for their outstanding performance.
