Our holistic approach includes a strong management component, taught by professors from our partner business school HEC, to ensure you are ready to tackle the business and organizational challenges of this rapidly evolving sector. Part of your technical training will also be delivered by ENSTA ParisTech professors researching cutting-edge energy engineering solutions.
Alongside your coursework and research, you will receive expert insight via a series of master classes, where leading industry and regulatory figures will outline their strategy for navigating the energy landscape in the 21st century.

On the École Polytechnique campus and within the Plateau de Saclay business and research cluster, you will have access to an exceptional concentration of high-level research facilities.

Program Structure

The STEEM Program emphasizes hands-on, experience-based learning by inviting you into the worlds of research and industry.

Each year is divided into three terms: two terms of classes and one dedicated to the internship.

The first year of the program provides a solid scientific basis on topics relevant to renewable energy sources and the environment. During this year, students attend seven scientific courses, one management course, and have to work on one numerical project. The year ends with a research or industrial internship lasting 16 to 20 weeks.

During the second year, students further explore the links between renewable energies and the environment in much moredepth, as well as the impact on the economy. They have to take six scientific classes, one management class, and work on one management project. An other research or industrial internship takes place at the end of this year, and lasts 20 to 24 weeks.

Across both years, the STEEM Master students also take foreign language classes, Humanities and French Culture classes, and practise Sports at least once a week. In addition, they have the opportunity to attend the regular Coriolis Conferences.

Career Prospects

With high-value industrial partnerships, internships and international academic exchanges, the Energy Environment: Science Technology and Management Master Program is designed to ensure you are ready to take on the new professional world upon graduation.

As evidenced by the considerable amount of industry support for this degree, the skills you will acquire are increasingly in high demand across corporate, research and public sectors. The COP21 alone resulted in commitments from 195 countries to submit an assessment of their renewable energy capacities, along with a timeline for their transition to a low-carbon or carbon-free society.

Our graduates are ideally suited to put their technical know-how and managerial expertise to use, in the implementation of environmental policies for leading manufacturers, innovative start-ups, public organizations and governmental agencies.

During the two-year program, you will have a wide range of opportunities to build relationships with École Polytechnique’s local and international industrial and research partners. The management skills you acquire will be a significant asset in your career progression.

The STEEM program is also a gateway to a research career, with our proximity to numerous research institutions providing an ideal platform to pursue a PhD with funding from our industrial or academic partners.

For the internationally focused, the perspectives offered by the STEEM Master's Degree naturally carry over to career opportunities around the world. Our international partnerships in energy, environment, industry and research sectors provide you with the perfect platform from which to launch your global career.

The combination of science and management in this program will give you a whole new view on the world of engineering and commerce !
