Health Insurance

Please note that registration with the French Public Health Insurance (social security) is compulsory in France when you enroll in a Higher Education Institution.

Except for :

  • Students coming from any of the 27 EU countries, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway or Switzerland who are already affiliated to a national health insurance provider, having the European health insurance card (EHIC). This card is free and will give you access to state-provided healthcare during your stay in France under the same conditions and at the same cost as nationals.
  • Students from Quebec are exempted of affiliation to the social security upon presentation of Form #SE401Q106.

All the necessary steps to register you for social security purposes will be taken upon your arrival in France, with the help of the BasiX. (International Students Office) You can complete it with an extra health insurance (mutuelle) which is not compulsory, for a better medical coverage. Subscription to a liability insurance is compulsory though.

Visa/Residence Permit

Upon your admission at Ecole Polytechnique you’ll be contacted by your BasiX referent who will guide you through the visa application.

You will receive the assistance of the BasiX to renew your visa/residence permit with the sous-prefecture of Palaiseau.

Banks

You have the possibility to open your French bank account on campus with one of the partner banks of Ecole Polytechnique
