We are pleased to announce that two teams of École Polytechnique students’ have won a Gold medal and a Silver medal at The Southwestern Europe Regional Contest (SWERC) 2019-2020 of the ACM-ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest)!

SWERC is a 5-hour on-site programming contest for teams of three students, focused on algorithmic problem solving and practical coding. The contest is fought between teams, each of which represents an institution from the region, i.e., a university, an engineering school, etc.

This year the contest was organised by Institut Polytechnique de Paris. It took place at Télécom Paris on January 25–26, 2020.

Team EP Chopper, with Khanh Nguyen and Thanh Vinh Nguyen, both from the Bachelor Program, and Louis Abraham from the Cycle Ingénieur has won the Championship in Southwestern Europe and a Gold medal. They will be able to present École Polytechnique at the ACM-ICPC World Finals 2020 which will be held in Moscow, Russia from the 21st to the 26th of June 2020.

Team EP Rouje, represented by François Sellier, Thomas Sepulchre and Alexandre Thiault all from the Cycle Ingénieur, also had extraordinary performance and ranked 4th earning a Silver medal.

This is the first time in the history that École Polytechnique became the champion of the SWERC, and also the first time that École Polytechnique won a gold medal and a silver medal in the same contest.
