Applications / admissions

To be able to apply, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
-    Currently be studying for a high school diploma/scientific university entrance certificate;
OR
-    Have already obtained a high school diploma/scientific university entrance certificate.

For the moment, there are no minimum grades required to be able to apply for the programs. However, as with all of École Polytechnique’s academic programs, the Bachelor programs are designed for top students with very high potential and we require them to have a strong overall academic average.

Applicants for both programs are expected to have:

-A high potential in Mathematics
-A strong GPA
-An excellent knowledge of English (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages level C1)
-The ability to cope with a heavy workload and to be at ease in an international context.

Applicants applying specifically for the Global Dual Degree Program in Engineering should be passionate about addressing the world's most urgent challenges, e.g. sustainability, environmental conservation, resource management, climate change, AI, etc.

Applicants must submit a number of supporting documents including official transcripts, a personal statement, contact details for two referees, etc.

You can download the list of required documents for the Bachelor of Science Program here.
You can download the list of required documents for the Global Dual Degree Program in Engineering here.

Applicants may only apply once per academic year and must choose to apply either for the Bachelor of Science Program or for the Global Dual Degree Program in Engineering.  They may apply via École Polytechnique’s application portal (or via Parcoursup for the Bachelor of Science Program), during the relevant application round.

Applicants must first create an applicant account here before beginning their application for the chosen program on the application portal.  They will be required to submit a number of supporting documents including official transcripts, a personal statement, contact details for two referees, etc.

You can download the list of required documents for the Bachelor of Science Program here.
You can download the list of required documents for the Global Dual Degree Program in Engineering here.

We strongly advise applicants to begin their application as early as possible as it may take some time to gather all supporting documents necessary for their application, and for their referees to submit their recommendations.

No prior knowledge of French is necessary to be able to apply.  However, depending on their level (less than level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), students will have to take French classes during the program as a B2 level is a graduation prerequisite.

Applications are only considered for admission to Year 1.  We do not accept transfer students in Years 2 and 3.

Candidates must prove their excellent knowledge of English via an internationally recognized English language certificate.  The International English Language Testing System (IELTS and IELTS iBT) and the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) are accepted, along with the following Cambridge English tests: Advanced (CAE) and Proficiency (CPT).  The test result should be less than two years old upon entering the Bachelor Program.
The minimum grades required are:
-    TOEFL iBT : 90
-    IELTS :   6,5 (minimum grade per each language skill: 6)
-    Cambridge test – (CAE/CPE) : B – 176 (minimum grade per each language skill: 169)

There may be several reasons why you cannot submit your application, once you assume it is complete:
1)    Is there an application round open for your chosen program?
2)    Have both of your referees submitted their recommendations for you?
3)    Have you validated each page of your application form correctly?

If none of the above reasons apply to you, please contact the Admissions team: bachelor-admissions@polytechnique.fr

Financial questions

Bachelor of Science Program: Annual tuition fees for the 2024 intake are €15,400 for EU (including EEA) students and €18,800 for non-EU (non-EEA) students.

Global Dual Degree Program in Engineering: Annual tuition fees for the Bachelor of Science degree are €15,400 for EU (including EEA) students and €18,800 for non-EU (non-EEA) students.

There are two tuition deposits of €1,500 each that will be deducted from your first year total tuition fees. The payment deadlines will be indicated in your Admission Guidelines.  To give you an idea, the first tuition deposit is due a few weeks after the final admission result and the second tuition deposit at the beginning of July. Please note that these deposits are non-refundable.

The Bachelor programs’ workload (lectures, classes, projects and personal work) is too intense for students to consider having a student job/paid internship.

It is not feasible and we strongly advise students not to count on a student job/paid internship contributing to their fees.

Each applicant will be asked to pay an application fee of €95, payable by credit card or bank transfer.

There is no application fee waiver available.

Download the online application payment form tutorial.

Estimated annual living costs (all included: housing, food, phone plan, clothing, insurance, miscellaneous, etc.): around €12,000.

Please remember that each person has individual spending habits and that this amount may vary.

Housing

We guarantee on-campus housing for all of our incoming Bachelor students.

Currently, we provide our students with individual dorm rooms of around 15 square meters, furnished with a bed, a desk, a chair, a bookshelf, a closet and a private bathroom.  All rooms have access to Internet.  Students share a common kitchen, where they can cook and prepare their own food with others, or they can choose to eat in the campus cafeteria or restaurant.

Accommodation currently costs €590 per month (2024 intake, amount revised annually in January) and is not included in the tuition fees. This monthly rent includes all electricity, water, Wi-Fi and home insurance charges.

Campus tour/open days

We do not have scheduled open day dates but our team would be happy to provide you with a guided tour of École Polytechnique at any time of the year.  Campus tours in English and in French take place regularly.  To book your tour, please click here.

Please note that you must book an appointment and wait until you receive a confirmation email to validate your campus tour.
All admitted candidates will be given the opportunity to do a campus tour on their Welcome Day.

After the Bachelor

If you are asking whether there is a fast track between the Bachelor Programs and the Ingénieur Polytechnicien Program, the answer is no.  However, Bachelor of Science Program graduates wishing to access the Ingénieur Polytechnicien Program can take and may succeed the entrance examination via the French University Track (“FUF”).  For more information, please click here.

Bachelor of Science Program students regularly enter the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program after succeeding this entrance exam but the majority of our students choose to pursue other postgraduate master’s degree and PhD track programs.

The Bachelor of Science Program is accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation to award a "grade de licence", which is the official undergraduate degree in French higher education.

This accreditation makes our students eligible for master’s degree and postgraduate level programs, both in France and abroad.
