Meet Sonia Vanier and Luiz Chamon, Program Directors

Sonia Vanier is a full professor in the Computer Science Department at Ecole Polytechnique (DIX), head of the "Trusted and Sustainable AI" and "AI and Optimisation for Mobility" chairs, and scientific head of industrial relations for the Computer Science Department at DIX.
"My research topics mainly concern the development of decision-support tools for complex industrial problems, artificial intelligence (AI), operations research (OR), network optimization, and hybrid approaches between AI and OR for future ethical, sustainable, and trusted AI systems."

Luiz Chamon is a former student of the University of São Paulo, Brazil, he received his Ph.D. in electrical and systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, USA, in 2020. He was then a postdoctoral fellow at the Simons Institute of the University of California, Berkeley, and an independent research group leader at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, before joining École polytechnique. He is one of the directors and pedagogical leads of the MScT in Trustworthy and Reliable AI (TRAI) and Large Language Models, Graphs, and Applications (LLGA).
He is a Hi! PARIS chair holder, an ELLIS Scholar, and recipient of multiple awards, including the 2021 Young Investigators award from the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Caltech, and the 2025 S. S. Chern Young Faculty award of École polytechnique.
His research interests include optimization, signal processing, machine learning, statistics, and control.
