Who are you and in which double major are you?

My name is Konstantinos Alexopoulos and I am a 3rd year bachelor student, following the double major of Mathematics and Economics. I am from Greece and I spent my whole life in Heraklion, Crete, in southern Greece, although I was born in Paris and so I have both nationalities.

Before the Bachelor, I attended a public high school in my home city, and I followed the curriculum of my country, which is intended for people who wish to attend Universities in Greece for mathematics, physics, chemistry and engineering.

Why would you recommend the Bachelor Program?

First of all, the Bachelor Program of the Ecole Polytechnique gives the opportunity to have a double major as well as a minor. This is important since it keeps a lot of doors open for the future and provides a variety of knowledge in different fields.

n addition, the courses are taught at a high and quite intense level. The professors are known in their fields and they care about the understanding of their students. They do not stay only on the theory, but they provide a lot of examples and exercises in order to make the course more comprehensive, and they are open for discussion and questions whenever students feel the need.

Finally, Ecole Polytechnique is a well-recognized institution, and this already brings a certain value to the diploma.

What would be a great memory of your time in the Program that you would like to share with future students?

I think that the greatest memory from my time here would be my friends. We managed to create friendships that will hopefully last forever, since we were living together on campus, we had a lot of common interests and we helped each other whenever we were in need. I will never forget the first days, when we had the integration weekend in Houlgate, where we got to know each other better through different activities, a lot of sports and a hike in the rain.

What would be a piece of advice that you would like to share with future students?

I think that it is important to stay positive, because at the beginning coming to a foreign country or living alone for the first time in combination with a demanding Bachelor might seem harsh. But with time, you adapt to the different environment, you get to know people, and you enjoy the bachelor experience

Also, never forget to seize every opportunity for a walk outside in the forest or by the lake, practice sports, or go to Paris to visit museum or an exhibition. These things, although they might seem simple, they can change a lot your perspectives, refresh you mind and make you feel better.

Where have you been admitted so far and what do you intend to do after the Program? Any other general comment on the outcomes of the Bachelor Program at this stage?

I applied for Masters in Pure mathematics in Europe and I have been admitted in the U.K. to the Imperial College of London, the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, and in Switzerland to ETH Zurich and EPFL in Lausanne. My goal is to continue in pure mathematics, apply for a PhD and work in the domain of research.
