Could you please introduce yourself?
I am Bogdan Raonic. I am from Serbia. I was a Bachelor student in the promotion BX21. I did mathematics & physics double major. I was one of the valedictorians in the BX21 promotion.

What program are you currently studying and in what institution?
Currently, I am styding at ETH in Zurich. I am doing Masters program in Applied Mathematics. I am a recipient of the Excellence Scholarship at ETH.

What made you choose this university/program?
ETH has an amazing program in Applied Mathematics. During my Bachelor program, I got interested in Computational Fluid Dynamics. The program in Applied Mathematics allows me to deepen my knowledge in this specific area. I am gaining a solid mathematical backgroud in Transport Phenomena and I believe that I will be able to take part in a multidisciplinary research once I finish the program.

What skills/knowledge gained during the Bachelor of Science have you been using in your current program?
Bachelor of Science gave me a good foundation in Mathematics and Physics. Courses that looked not so important at the first glance are now more than useful. Difficult courses in the last semesters at Polytechnique appeared to be crucial for my Masters studies.

When you entered the Bachelor of Science, did you already know what you wanted to do after the program?
To be honest, I had no idea what I wanted to do after Bachelor.

I knew that I was going to pursue a degree in Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science, but I did not know which one exactly. In the end, I decided to do something which has a little of everything – Applied Mathematics.

What memories do you have of your time spent at l'X and in the Bachelor program?
I miss the people I met in France. I also miss the entire community at Polytechnique. It is very difficult to get used to a new community and new people here. I miss the campus, the professors and I miss the L’ORE.

What are your ambitions for the future?
Most likely, I will do a PhD in Applied Mathematics. As I mentioned. I found my area of interest, so I will be doing a reserach in that area. I also have several plans regarding my home country - Serbia. I would like to help my country. The situation there in the last several decades is not as good as it is supposed to be. That is why, I believe that my generation needs to do something in order to transform my country into a modern, European state.

Any piece of advice to current Bachelor students when deciding about the pursuit of their studies?
A piece of advice that I would give them is to follow their intuition when deciding about the future. There is no tool as poweful as the intuition which could help them choose the right path. It is also very
important to choose something which they truly like. It takes a lot of time to find a discipline that fulfills them, so they should start analyzing themselves as soon as possible.
